Charlotte cut beads, or “Charlottes,” are traditionally a size 13/0 round bead with a single facet cut on each one. Similarly, “True Cuts” are any other size round bead with a single facet cut on each one. The terms Charlotte and True Cut are often used interchangeably for all sizes of beads with one cut. These sparkly beads are a favorite of those who make beaded flowers but can be used in any project to add a little sparkle!
A size 13/0 Charlotte cut hank is 12 temporary strings of 1.7 mm seed beads approximately 12 inches long that are then gathered by their ends and tied into a necklace-like loop. These are sometimes called “short hanks” because they are shorter than the usual hank of 20 inch strings. A hank of 13/0 Charlottes contains approximately 3,000 beads.
